LENT APPEAL

In February, the Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby, along with Pope Francis and Iain Greenshields, head of the Church of Scotland, travelled to South Sudan on a ‘Pilgrimage of Peace‘. Here at St John and St Philip, our own Mission Partner, STAD (Support Trust for African Development), is active in South Sudan and in refugee camps for the displaced South Sudanese population living in neighbouring Northern Uganda.

South Sudan broke away from Sudan to become independent in 2011 after decades of conflict, but civil war erupted two years later. The conflict has claimed almost 400,000 lives and displaced millions. Despite numerous peace deals, violence and hunger continue, and the country is currently experiencing severe flooding and localised drought.

In the season of Lent, the Christian focus is on prayer, fasting, and almsgiving.  Please consider making STAD the recipient of your Lenten sacrifice of giving. Use the QR code below, or make a transfer to the Church bank account, clearly indicating:  Lent Appeal – STAD.
