Church of St. John and St. Philip, The Hague

Alongside out involvement with our Mission Partners, we also support and undertake Local Mission Projects.

Our two main ongoing projects are:

  • Straatpastoraat: Het Straatpastoraat is an organisation which serves the destitute and homeless people of The Hague. Part of their work is the provision of a three course meal for 100 homeless people every Friday evening at the Stadsklooster on Westeinde. Various churches and groups help with this, and our church takes part every first Friday of the month. Carolyn Wiersum is our church’s contact person and coordinator for the preparation and serving of this meal every first Friday, together with other volunteers of our church. For more info, go to www.straatpastoraatdenhaag.nl.

  • Foodbank: The mission of the Foodbank is to donate food to the poor with the help of volunteers. Our church is involved in this by collecting a variety of items on an ongoing basis. The items required are: coffee, tea, rice, pasta, flour, sugar, dried fruit/nuts, biscuits, tinned foods such as tuna, soup, sauces, beans and jarred fruit or vegetables. They also welcome non-food items such as garbage bags, toilet paper, tooth paste, soap, shampoo, cleaning products and pet food. Katherine Fortier is our Foodbank donations coordinator, and she delivers the donated items to the Foodbank distribution centre on a regular basis. Donations can be brought to church on a Sunday, or to the church office during the week. For more info, go to haaglanden.voedselbankennederland.nl.
