Welcome to The Hague. The Church of St John and St Philip would like to offer you friendship and help you feel at home during the time that you are studying here.
We understand that being an international student can be an exciting time, but that it can also be frustrating and lonely. That is why we organise events and activities designed especially for you. Although we are all Christians, our services are offered to international students of all faiths or none.

New course: How to hear God's voice
Royal Fellowship, the umbrella group for churches serving international students in The Hague, is organising a course for students entitled 'How to hear God's voice'. The format will involve bible-based teaching, interaction, and fellowship. Dates and times are still to be confirmed, but for more information and to register interest, please contact Mei Choate, meichoate[at]gmail.com.
Here is an idea of what you might be able to join in with.
September welcome
Several welcome and social events take place at the start of the academic year to help you settle into your new life and make friends.
Social events
We hold a number of social activities during the year for international students, including special meals, celebrations, or other cultural events.
Hospitality scheme
We can put you in touch with Dutch and international families in The Hague, who will invite you into their home for meals. This is a lovely way to get to know local people and their families. Hopefully this friendship will continue during your stay in The Hague. Organised in partnership with Royal Fellowship, the local IFES group in The Hague.
Help with Dutch culture
We are always happy to explain any aspects of Dutch culture and customs.
Bible Studies
Would you like to get to know more about Christianity? Why not join our Alpha course, which explores the basics of the Christian faith during evening meetings and a meal? Are you a Christian who wants to grow in your understanding of the Bible? We offer home-groups and the opportunity for individual or small-group Bible study. These activities are entirely optional and open to people of any faith or none.
Though we are eager to help ease your transition to the Hague, we are unable to assist you in the following ways:
- organise accommodation
- provide or arrange financial support
- find paid employment for international students
- directly provide medical care, car repair etc.
We encourage you to contact your local international student advisor, who may be able to help with some of these areas. Some helpful links are:
